Steve Young

"You are smarter than you think you are," was the lesson Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young had drilled into him by English teacher Charles Reich.

"Steve was usually quiet during the first half of class, absorbing the commentary," Mr. Reich recalls of the legendary quarterback. "Then, as if he were surveying an NFL defense before taking the snap from center, he would synthesize the ideas and take the discussion to a higher level of discovery."

Teachers Are Students Too! Zac Posen Tote Contest

Teachers Are Students Too! Zac Posen tote contest.
Every school year a teachers learn lessons that remind them that no matter how many years they have been teaching, there is always more to learn.

Contest Question:
In 200 words or less about one lesson that you have learned as a teacher this year.

And the winner was...Nycolle Woodard!!!
Here is Nycolle's winning entry which explains a lesson that every teacher should study:
“Strangely enough the most important lesson I learned this year as a teacher is that teachers need teachers. If we are to truly be examples for our students, then we must demonstrate cooperative behavior for them. Often times as educators we feel the need to compete or outshine one another when in fact if one shines, we all shine. Being a teacher can be a lonely feeling at times and there is so much pressure on us to make miracles happen in our classrooms that we forget to connect with one another. So if I had to sum up what I've learned as a teacher this year it would be to model cooperative behavior for my students and my colleagues because we truly need each other!”
