Best of the Web: Art in the Classroom
Periodically we compile a list of the best of what the Internet has to offer to teachers—be that in the classroom or just in daily life. The current edition, “Art in the Classroom” emphasizes websites that examine an essential component to a balanced education, art. The sites explore methods of incorporating art into the classroom as well as the impact and contribution of the arts. .

Art in the Classroom
- National Art Education Association
- The primary objective of the National Art Education Association is to bring awareness to art education as a fundamental principle of learning. The organization provides an array of mentoring and networking opportunities in addition to an array of other programs.
- Arts Education Partnership
- The Arts Education Partnership offers information and communication about prevailing arts education policies, issues, and activities from national to local levels. Prominent projects include: commissioning research about art and education issues; and constituting national forums related to the field.
- The Center for Arts Education
- The Center for Arts Education is comprised of a group of NYC public school parents and community members campaigning to restore arts education in the New York State curriculum. The CAE engages parents and their children in interactive arts education, including workshops with teaching artists and school art teachers. This innovative program promotes school reform and offers opportunities for high school students and educators to participate in school to career activities in the arts and related industries. The program's primary goal is to expose students, teachers, counselors, and administrators to the many career options in the arts industry.

- This interactive site is for art educators, artists, and those who want to enhance students artistic lives at home. The site provides a directory of methods to cultivate creativity in children through art lessons, craft projects, and seasonal activities.
- Crayola
- Teachers have access to promotional opportunities such as demos, workshops, product and lesson testing. The site offers guidelines for students to formulate ideas through interactive and visual learning experiences.
- National Gallery of Arts NGA Kids
- A resource that helps children develop interpretive skills on their own through cognitive learning games, quizzes, and projects. Children learn to express themselves comfortably in every medium of art.
- ABCya
- A fun and safe place for elementary students to engage on the internet and learn basic computer skills, all of the educational games and activities were created by certified teachers. The site also incorporates math and reading to enhance understanding.
- National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts
- This site administers an assortment of information on how to advocate for the arts as part of education. Teachers can browse an array of practices in arts education and help foster the development of new methods.
- Incredible Art Department
- Students and teachers can access thousands of art related links on this site. A great resource for new teachers to learn about strategies and share ideas.
